CCH Updates Visitation Policy

January 5, 2022

Crenshaw Community Hospital (CCH) allows equal visitation rights for all hospitalized patients with clinical restrictions for certain circumstances. Patients will be notified of their Rights and Responsibilities when they are admitted to the hospital. The Patient Handbook containing information about visitation as well as a list of the Patient Rights and Responsibilities is given to all inpatients by the Admissions department. However, due to the current COVID-19 pandemic and risk to CCH’s patients we had to restrict our visitation policy as follows:

It is the policy of Crenshaw Community Hospital to comply with CMS and Alabama Department of Public Health guidelines related to the increase fluctuation of COVID positive patients within our county.

With the current resurgence in COVID-19 cases, the hospital is implementing a temporary policy to significantly decrease visitors, effective immediately. Exceptions to the policy may include, but are limited to, end of life, those patients with disabilities who having someone with them would be essential to their care (dementia included), and parent of children. Exceptions will be made after consultation with the patients attending physician and unit nursing staff and leadership. Elective procedure patients will not be allowed any visitors. All surgical patient visitors will be required to remain in their vehicle. The surgery team and/or surgeon will contact the patient’s visitor by phone for consultation and discharge instructions.

Any visitor allowed due to an exception will be required to enter through the public designated entrance which is the main entrance and the ER. All visitors will be required to wear a face mask covering and will receive a COVID-19 screening prior to entrance. Any visitor that does not pass the COVID-19 screening process will not be allowed entrance at that time.

No visitors under the age of 18 will be allowed until further notice.

PROCEDURES:

CLINICAL VISITATION PROCESS

ER:

CCH’s ER Unit will not allow visitors. However, there are a few exceptions that will be made; those exceptions are end of life, caregiver of those with disabilities, and a parent of an underage child.

Any patient who has tested positive or is presumed positive for COVID-19, will not be allowed any visitors unless ordered by MD.

MED SURG:

CCH’s Medical Surgical Unit will not be allowed visitors except in the case of those patients with disabilities and a parent of an underage child unless ordered or requested by the patients assigned MD. If the patient’s MD orders or requests that a caregiver come in, this visitor will be required to wear a mask and remain in the patient’s room at all times except for exiting the building. Any changes or exceptions will be at the discretion of the medical staff.

Any patient who has tested positive or is presumed positive for COVID-19, will not be allowed any visitors unless ordered by MD.

COVID UNIT:

There will be no visitors allowed within the unit unless ordered by MD.

If visitation is ordered by MD, the visitor will be provided with personal protective equipment (PPE). Instructions will be provided to visitor on how to apply, remove and properly dispose of PPE.

SURGICAL DEPARTMENT:

No surgical patients will be allowed visitors. Surgical patients will enter through the main entrance and will receive a COVID-19 screening. After screening process, the patient will be escorted by staff to the assigned room. The visitor will remain in their vehicle and wait on a consultation and discharge instruction provided by surgical team.

OUTPATIENT SERVICES:

CCH’s outpatient unit will not allow visitors except for end of life, patients with disabilities and a parent of an underage child. Exceptions will be made after consultation with the patients attending physician and unit nursing staff and leadership.

Any visitor allowed due to exception will remain in the patients room at all times except for exiting the building.

(LAB/XRAY DEPT)

CCH’s LAB and X-RAY departments will not allow any visitors except in the case of those patients with disabilities and a parent of an underage child. Exceptions will be made after consultation with the patients attending physician and unit staff and leadership. Any visitor allowed due to the exception will remain only in the designated LAB/X-RAY waiting area while tests are being performed.

SPECIAL SERVICES UNIT:

The behavioral health will not allow visitors unless requested by the attending physician. However, if the patient is psychologically unstable as evident by disruptive, threatening, or violent behavior of any kind, there will be no visitation allowed.

Any visitor allowed due to the physicians request will receive a COVID-19 screening and will be required to wear a face mask covering during the duration of this visit.

These restrictions are subject to change based on CMS, Alabama Department of Public Health guidelines and the Governor of Alabama’s Health orders.
